Overview
• Tour Duration: Approximately 9 hours (can extend to 10–11 hours with optional food and tea breaks)
• Start Time: At 09:00 AM from your hotel or meeting point
- The tour begins with a 3-hour drive from Baku to Lankaran.
Stop 1: Circular Castle & Old Prison (Zindan Tower)
Our first stop is the Zindan Tower, also known as the Round Tower. Originally part of the Lankaran Fortress, it was a key element in the city’s defense system. Located just beyond a small bridge at the city center, the tower is now partially hidden by large acacia and fig trees—only the top is visible, with branches extending from its broken windows.
In pre-Soviet times, the tower served as a prison and is historically notable as a place where Joseph Stalin was once detained. Although the building is no longer open to visitors, guests can view it from outside at a close distance.
Duration: 15–20 minutes
Stop 2: Lankaran Khan’s House – History Museum
Just a 5-minute drive away, our next destination is the Lankaran Khan’s House, which now serves as a local history museum. Built in 1913 by order of Mir Ahmed Khan, a descendant of the Talysh Khanate, this mansion was constructed in honor of his wife, Tugra Khan.
European architects were invited to design the building, and materials were transported from Baku by ship. It was the first multi-storey building in Lankaran and featured electric lighting and heating, even before the revolution. Today, it houses exhibits showcasing the rich history of the region.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop 3: Tea Factory & Plantation
Next, we visit a local tea factory and plantation, just 5 minutes from the Khan’s Palace. Lankaran has long been known for its fragrant, high-quality tea, a tradition that began in the 1930s. Be sure to spot the giant samovar monument as you enter the city!
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop 4: Bamboo Plantation in Talishli Village
A 15-minute drive brings us to a hidden gem: the bamboo plantation in Talishli village. This tranquil spot feels like a slice of Japan and offers a serene photo opportunity amidst the towering bamboo.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop 5: Khanbulan Lake in Hirkan National Park
Our final destination is Khanbulan Lake, located 25 minutes from the bamboo plantation. Surrounded by the lush Talish Mountains, the lake is one of Lankaran’s most picturesque attractions. At 4.7 km long and 2.2 km wide, it is ideal for hiking, picnicking, and relaxing in nature. In summer, it’s a popular retreat for both locals and tourists.
