Overview

After meeting at 09:00 at the agreed location, we drive to the Guba region of Azerbaijan. Our first destination is Qachrash Forest, located approximately 3 hours from Baku.

Qachrash Forest, also known as Gachrash Forest, is a peaceful natural retreat situated around 15–20 kilometers southwest of Quba. Nestled at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains, this expansive forest spans over 500 hectares and is renowned for its lush greenery, diverse wildlife, and serene ambiance. Towering oaks, beeches, and hornbeams create a cool, shaded environment, while crystal-clear streams and small waterfalls add to its charm. Visitors can enjoy hiking, birdwatching, and picnicking. The forest is home to deer, wild boars, and numerous bird species, making it ideal for nature lovers. In spring and summer, it bursts into life with wildflowers and vibrant foliage; in autumn, it transforms into a palette of reds and golds—perfect for photography and peaceful walks.
Guests will spend approximately 30 minutes here exploring and enjoying the natural beauty.

Next, we head to Khinalug Village, which is about 80 minutes’ drive from the forest.

Upon arrival in Khinalug, guests will enjoy a traditional Azerbaijani lunch in a local home before exploring the village with a private guide. This historic and ethnographic reserve is the highest, most remote, and isolated village in Azerbaijan, situated at an elevation of approximately 2,180 meters (7,150 feet) above sea level. With a population of about 2,000, Khinalug is also one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world, with a history spanning over 5,000 years. It is one of the premier destinations for adventure travelers in Azerbaijan.

Surrounded by towering peaks—Gizil Gaya (3,725 m), Shahdag (4,243 m), and Tufandag (4,191 m)—Khinalug offers dramatic alpine views and a unique cultural experience. Weather can vary greatly, from −20°C in winter to 18°C in summer. The surrounding area is rich in natural beauty, featuring alpine meadows, medicinal herbs, and springs. A local legend speaks of three interconnected lakes near Tufandag that maintain equal water levels year-round.

The residents of Khinalug speak Ketsh, a unique and endangered language unrelated to Azerbaijani, spoken by only a few thousand people worldwide. The villagers preserve ancient traditions, including music, dance, weaving, and carpet making. The village architecture features stone and wood houses built in terraces along the mountainside.
Guests will spend about 90 minutes here with a guided exploration.

The final stop of the tour is Red Village, located about 80 minutes from Khinalug.

Qırmızı Qəsəbə, also known as Red Village or Krasnaya Sloboda, is a unique and historically significant settlement in the Quba District, around 15 km northeast of Quba city. It is the only all-Jewish village outside of Israel and the United States and is the cultural heart of Azerbaijan’s Mountain Jewish community.

Red Village dates back to the 18th century. In 1742, Huseynali Khan of the Quba Khanate allowed Jews to settle across the Kudyal River from Quba. Initially called “Yevreyskaya Sloboda” (Jewish Settlement), it later became known as Krasnaya Sloboda during Soviet times, likely due to the red-tiled roofs of the homes. The village prospered under the protection of the Quba khans, and Jews from regions including Gilan, Baku, Iran, and Turkey contributed to its development and cultural richness.
Guests will spend approximately 30 minutes here with explanations from their private guide.

We conclude the tour and return to Baku.
The drive from Red Village to Baku city center is approximately 3 hours.
