Located about 60 kilometers southwest of Baku, the Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape is one of Azerbaijan’s most treasured archaeological sites. Set within a semi-desert region of rocky hills and mud volcanoes, Gobustan is home to over 6,000 ancient petroglyphs—stone carvings and engravings that provide an extraordinary window into human life dating back as far as 40,000 years.

These petroglyphs, etched into the darkened surface of limestone rocks, depict scenes of hunting, dancing, rituals, wildlife, boats, and early forms of communal life.
